Ireland West Airport Knock: group transfers without a coach park

With no coach park published by the airport, the first job at Knock is agreeing where the group meets its vehicle. The licensed, insured operator we book plans where the vehicle waits and how your group reaches it, and that plan is written into the booking.

Settling the meeting point

The zone in front of the terminal is for dropping off only, with no waiting, and the airport points people meeting arrivals to its on-site car park. The operator decides where a coach or minibus will be and how your party gets to it; we do not guess at a spot. Copy the confirmed instruction into your arrival note word for word, so nobody stands at the kerb looking for a bus.

Send flight numbers so the operator can bring the vehicle in against the real landing time rather than arriving early with nowhere to wait.

Pilgrimage groups: 20 km to the Shrine

The Shrine is roughly 20 km from the airport; on arrival, coaches use its North Car Park, whose entrance is on the Ballyhaunis road. The Novena, 14 to 22 August each year, and first Saturdays of the month are the peak times, so give arrivals on those dates more slack. Reek Sunday on Croagh Patrick falls on 25 July 2027 for groups combining the two.

Transfers between Knock Airport and Galway, Sligo or Athlone

On the N17, the airport is midway between Galway and Sligo. Sligo is about 55 km and 45 minutes away, Galway 60 to 65 minutes and Athlone just over an hour. Bus Éireann Expressway routes 64 (Galway to Sligo and Derry) and 440 (Athlone to Westport) stop under a minute's walk from the terminal, which gives a stray traveller a way to catch up.

Sizing the vehicle for the west

A midi coach of 29 to 35 seats copes with narrow rural roads and town centres better than a 12 to 14 m coach. If the first afternoon heads into small villages, say so on the request and the operator can weigh that against seats and luggage.

Questions

Where will the vehicle meet us at Knock?

At the point the operator sets out in your booking confirmation. With no published coach park and no waiting allowed in the drop-off zone, that confirmed instruction is what you forward to travellers.

How far is Sligo from the airport?

About 55 km, roughly 45 minutes by road. Galway is 60 to 65 minutes the other way along the N17.

How long is a Galway to Knock Airport transfer?

Plan on 60 to 65 minutes along the N17 for the road itself. For a departure, add check-in and some slack for traffic leaving the city.

Can the transfer go straight to Knock Shrine?

Yes. It is about 20 km, and the shrine has its own coach parking. Tell us if you are arriving during the Novena or on a first Saturday.

What should the transfer request include?

Flight numbers and times, headcount, bags and any mobility aids, the first address, and whether the vehicle stays with the group afterwards.
